On this blog, I will be sorting Star Trek characters into Hogwarts houses based on their personalities and character types. This is a just-for-fun project I started in my free time and it's not to be taken seriously; just a fun way to practice making graphics and to combine my two favourite series, Star Trek and Harry Potter. I am going to try and sort as many characters as possible from ALL the Star Trek series.
You probably will not agree with me on all my sorting choices and that's okay. A lot of characters are very ambiguous – for example, I spent a long time debating whether Kirk was a Slytherin or a Gryffindor. Again, this is just for fun.
Feel free to send an ask with suggestions on what characters you'd like to be sorted next!
Starfleet-Houses » Kes: As an Occampa, Kes has a short lifespan. Knowing this, she is always confident in the decisions she makes about her life and which direction to take it in; she follows Neelix loyally along with Voyager, and develops strong friendships with many of the crew members. When she knows it is time for her to leave, she does so - she’s grounded, strong, and loyal, but not quite stubborn. She knows what is best for her, but also has a sense of empathy to other beings. Her friendship with the Doctor/EMH shows off her Hufflepuff personality most brightly; she encourages him and helps him on his way to evolving into a more human being, and stands by his side dutifully.
Starfleet-Houses » Keiko O’Brien: Keiko is very family and friendship oriented. The well-being of others holds a special place in her heart, as evidenced a lot in her part on DS9 where she is always supportive of Miles and his associates, and works to establish a school where she can teach the children living aboard the station. She’s very steadfast. trusting and strongly loyal, and is able to stay with Miles throughout his career despite difficulties with her botanist career.
Starfleet-Houses » Constable Odo: Odo is practically the definition of ‘just and loyal’. The pursuit of truth and justice is his central goal, and he is steadfastly loyal to the lawmakers. Even though those lawmakers may change, Odo remains steadfastly loyal to those who command him. He’s very grounded in his grouchy, misanthropic ways, and seems quite distant at first to everyone, but those who do get close to him make a steadfast, good and trustworthy ally. Being a detective - he’s also a good finder! He is sorted into Hufflepuff House.
Starfleet-Houses » Commander Chakotay: Strongly traditional and spiritual in a time where this is unusual, Chakotay is a good-hearted person to the core, very hardworking and steadfastly loyal. Both to the Maquis when he was with them, and to the Starfleet crew assembled in the Delta quadrant, Chakotay is down to earth, emphatic, an optimist eager to see the good in people, and helpful, happy to share his ideas and techniques for inner peace.
Since a few people have been curious, I’ll elaborate on some of the characteristics I sort by.
Keep in mind, again, that this is something I do for fun, so this is by no means an absolute rule list or how all characters should be sorted or even ‘official’ characteristics for all houses. Keep in mind not everyone in these houses will have ALL the characteristics. Some characters may have all the positives, or all the negatives, or a mix - say, half the positives, half the negatives, or maybe all the negatives and three positives, or 10 of the positives and 5 of the negatives!
A lot of these houses also have similar and interconnecting traits, and that’s the idea - to be truly great, they must work together.
Gryffindor
Positive: Chivlarous, brave, daring, headstrong, forwards-thinking, rebellious, strong nerve, determined, hard-shelled, steadfast, sense of justice and right/wrong, fiery, playful, loyalty (often to one person or ideal), success, mischief, defiance, utilitarian, leader, and always goes for the goal of being ‘good’.
Negative: Reckless, haughty, overbearing, over-emotional, arrogance, pride, easily engages in fights and quarrels over moral ideals and ethics, ‘rightful vengeance’, extreme, doesn’t care for minor petty rules if they get in the way, sometimes uses reckless or potentially destructive means to get to the ‘good’ end.
Slytherin
Positive: Ambitious, self-preserving, cunning, clever, smooth-talking, good at picking out advantageous opportunities, good at creating schemes on the spot, charming, strategic, emphatic, misunderstood, resourceful, leadership, pragmatic, mischief, discreet, daring, mysterious, fluid and adaptive.
Negative: Power-hungry, picky with their loyalty and friends, carelessness, lack of outwards emotion, good at lying and blackmail, gossip, judgemental, egotism, envy, vanity, brutal honesty, insensitivity, sharpness, bias, authority, greedy, distrusting, vindictive, duplicit, have a ‘public’ face and a ‘real’ face, untrustworthy, fickle, reluctant to self-sacrifice, misanthropic, deceptive, believe their means justify their ends.
Ravenclaw
Positive: Wise, exceptional, planning, eccentric, gains joy from learning, unusual, innovative, whimsical, dreamy, creative, imaginative, artistic, contemplative, philosophical, careful with decision-making, critical thinking, impulsive, wordy, accuracy, exceptional and specific knowledge, individual, intellectual, open-minded, clear-minded and rational.
Negative: Idealistic, nitpicky, compulsive, ever-changing, overcomplicated, aloof, flighty, too forward, obsessive, might annoy others with overspill of jargon and technicalities others are not aware of, over-philosophizing, overthinking, focus too often on details, prideful, distant,
Hufflepuff
Positive: Loyal, just, interconnected, emotional, emphatic, sympathetic, hard-working, patient, grounded, trustworthy, honest, obedient, activist, humanist, selflessness, accepting, discreet, humble, warm, faithful, calm and dependable.
Negative: Easily influenced, too interested in others so that they might possibly ignore the self and one’s own personal needs, hard to change from basic position and ideas, trouble differentiating true evil from superficial evil, old-fasioned, sometimes too quiet, naivety, over-emotional, workaholic, indiscretion, frustration, stress, tedious, tend to fade into the background as the machine or workers behind the tough leader.
Starfleet-Houses » Lieutenant Ezri Dax: While timid and more than a little jumpy, Ezri is a people person. She connects with people easily as a counselor should, and strives to make others feel better. While she has trouble reconciling with the Symbiont she was unexpectedly presented with, she recognized the honour and works hard to do right by the past hosts and to gain a clearer state of mind so she can be an effective part of the DS9 crew. She is sorted into Hufflepuff House.
Starfleet-Houses » Doctor Leonard “Bones” McCoy: As a doctor, Bones knows how to connect properly with his patients. He is normally the voice of reason along with Spock to Captain Kirk’s recklessness. McCoy is very grounded, traditional, down-to-earth, loyal, and hardworking. He spends a lot of time reminiscing about the Old South and days past, and trying to tone down the fast pace of the 23th century with his anecdotes. He’s quite stubborn as well and often picks fights with Spock, whom he finds all too logical; he is a man who prefers to guide himself by tradition and emotion, and dislikes brash movements, over-thinking, and over-aggression. While he can be gruff and sarcastic at times, he generally does have a passion for helping others. He is sorted into Hufflepuff House.
Starfleet-Houses » Lieutenant Commander Geordi LaForge: Hardworking, ingenious, pleasant and good-natured, Geordi is well-meaning. As Chief Engineer, he’s got a lot of people under his command he needs to work closely with. He’s good at forming and maintaining these connections, as well as staying strong and focused in times of pressure - he’s also helpful and good at teamwork. He is sorted into Hufflepuff House.
Starfleet-Houses » Ensign Harry Kim: A hardworking Ensign, Harry is nervous about rule-breaking and is often goaded into it by his friend Tom Paris. Slightly awkward but very friendly and sociable, incredibly strong and always practicing his skills, Ensign Kim keeps few enemies but many friends, and knows how to lift the spirits of those around him. He is sorted into Hufflepuff House.
