On this blog, I will be sorting Star Trek characters into Hogwarts houses based on their personalities and character types. This is a just-for-fun project I started in my free time and it's not to be taken seriously; just a fun way to practice making graphics and to combine my two favourite series, Star Trek and Harry Potter. I am going to try and sort as many characters as possible from ALL the Star Trek series.
You probably will not agree with me on all my sorting choices and that's okay. A lot of characters are very ambiguous – for example, I spent a long time debating whether Kirk was a Slytherin or a Gryffindor. Again, this is just for fun.
Feel free to send an ask with suggestions on what characters you'd like to be sorted next!
Starfleet-Houses » Lt.Commander Montgomery “Scotty” Scott: Scotty is very loyal, traditional, and determined. He’s often known to lighten the mood of his crewmates, and work by his own methods but always fulfil the Captain’s expectations. He is known to sometimes get aggressive and impulsive, however, and is quite attatched to his scotch. He is sorted into Gryffindor House.
Starfleet-Houses » Ensign Nog: While he starts off being not quite the purest of souls, like most Ferengi, Nog is an exceptional one. The first Ferengi in Starfleet, he displays a lot of courage in defying his uncle’s wishes and going where no Ferengi had gone before, and allying himself with humans. He learns a lot about bravery, morality, and what’s right in his time with Starfleet - he’s headstrong, determined, and tough. He is sorted into Gryffindor House.
Starfleet-Houses » Commander William T. Riker: Keen on adventuring, determined, a romantic, often stubborn and reluctant to bend away from what he knows well, very courageous and steadfastly loyal to his Captain, Riker is quite the picture of a Gryffindor. He’s got a good sense of humour and friendliness, as well as a strong moral code. He is sorted into Gryffindor House.

Since a few people have been curious, I’ll elaborate on some of the characteristics I sort by.
Keep in mind, again, that this is something I do for fun, so this is by no means an absolute rule list or how all characters should be sorted or even ‘official’ characteristics for all houses. Keep in mind not everyone in these houses will have ALL the characteristics. Some characters may have all the positives, or all the negatives, or a mix - say, half the positives, half the negatives, or maybe all the negatives and three positives, or 10 of the positives and 5 of the negatives!
A lot of these houses also have similar and interconnecting traits, and that’s the idea - to be truly great, they must work together.
Gryffindor
Positive: Chivlarous, brave, daring, headstrong, forwards-thinking, rebellious, strong nerve, determined, hard-shelled, steadfast, sense of justice and right/wrong, fiery, playful, loyalty (often to one person or ideal), success, mischief, defiance, utilitarian, leader, and always goes for the goal of being ‘good’.
Negative: Reckless, haughty, overbearing, over-emotional, arrogance, pride, easily engages in fights and quarrels over moral ideals and ethics, ‘rightful vengeance’, extreme, doesn’t care for minor petty rules if they get in the way, sometimes uses reckless or potentially destructive means to get to the ‘good’ end.
Slytherin
Positive: Ambitious, self-preserving, cunning, clever, smooth-talking, good at picking out advantageous opportunities, good at creating schemes on the spot, charming, strategic, emphatic, misunderstood, resourceful, leadership, pragmatic, mischief, discreet, daring, mysterious, fluid and adaptive.
Negative: Power-hungry, picky with their loyalty and friends, carelessness, lack of outwards emotion, good at lying and blackmail, gossip, judgemental, egotism, envy, vanity, brutal honesty, insensitivity, sharpness, bias, authority, greedy, distrusting, vindictive, duplicit, have a ‘public’ face and a ‘real’ face, untrustworthy, fickle, reluctant to self-sacrifice, misanthropic, deceptive, believe their means justify their ends.
Ravenclaw
Positive: Wise, exceptional, planning, eccentric, gains joy from learning, unusual, innovative, whimsical, dreamy, creative, imaginative, artistic, contemplative, philosophical, careful with decision-making, critical thinking, impulsive, wordy, accuracy, exceptional and specific knowledge, individual, intellectual, open-minded, clear-minded and rational.
Negative: Idealistic, nitpicky, compulsive, ever-changing, overcomplicated, aloof, flighty, too forward, obsessive, might annoy others with overspill of jargon and technicalities others are not aware of, over-philosophizing, overthinking, focus too often on details, prideful, distant,
Hufflepuff
Positive: Loyal, just, interconnected, emotional, emphatic, sympathetic, hard-working, patient, grounded, trustworthy, honest, obedient, activist, humanist, selflessness, accepting, discreet, humble, warm, faithful, calm and dependable.
Negative: Easily influenced, too interested in others so that they might possibly ignore the self and one’s own personal needs, hard to change from basic position and ideas, trouble differentiating true evil from superficial evil, old-fasioned, sometimes too quiet, naivety, over-emotional, workaholic, indiscretion, frustration, stress, tedious, tend to fade into the background as the machine or workers behind the tough leader.
Starfleet-Houses » Jake Sisko: A storyteller with a taste for adventure. Jake Sisko has the courage to break the mould his father had set for him and follow his dreams, enjoying sensational literature, snooping to find the best information, getting up to no good wit his friend Nog, and taking risks in order to get the best. He’s also the type of intellectual like his father, and learns a lot about life, courage, tenacity and determination on his years aboard Deep Space Nine. He is sorted into Gryffindor.
Starfleet-Houses » Lieutenant Nyota Uhura: Strong, steadfast, fiercely loyal to ship and crew, and independent, Uhura tends to be the more subtle Gryffindor type. However, she does have pride in her heritage and her abilities, as well as determination and the will to follow Kirk to every corner of the galaxy, learn from him and have the same eagerness for doing the right thing.
Starfleet-Houses » Lieutenant Tom Paris: Simple-minded and not always a rule follower, Tom Paris is tough, smart, fun-loving, quite friendly, and always willing to go an extra mile to do what he feels is the right thing. He tends to have a bit too much ‘fun’ and drags his friend Harry Kim into many of his messes. Due to his strength, courage, ability to lead, forwardness and love for fun, heroics and rule-bending give Tom Paris a place in Gryffindor House.
Starfleet-Houses » Major Kira Nerys: The spitfire Kira Nerys is recognized for her outstanding boldness, perserverance and bravery for her actions during the Cardassian occupation of Bajor, where she acted as a rebel, fighting through thick and thin for Bajor’s freedom. Hot-tempered, complex, fiercely loyal to her people, easy to frustrate, and on a constant crusade for revenge and justice from the Cardassians, Major Kira is sorted into Gryffindor.
Starfleet-Houses » Lieutenant B’Elanna Torres: Aggressive, temperemental and very volatine, B’Elanna is nevertheless a brilliant engineer, very determined to push the limits of the possible in her field. While she ascribes to Klingon honour codes to a lesser degree than full-blooded Klingons, B’Elanna still has a very strong sense of morals, justice and honour - on the downside, she can also be very emotional, overaggressive and overzealous, as well as easily upset. She is placed in Gryffindor House.
